Poland’s Włodarczyk nominated for world female athlete of the year

Polish hammer thrower Anita Włodarczyk has been nominated for the 2018 world female athlete of the year award by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The double Olympic and three-time world champion is vying for the title of the IAAF World Female Athlete of the Year alongside nine other athletes, among them Belgian heptathlete Nafissatou Thiam, British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, Croatian discus thrower Sandra Perkovic, and South African middle distance runner Caster Semenya.
A shortlist of athletes is due to be released in three weeks.
The winner will be announced at the IAAF Athletics Awards in Monaco on December 4.
Włodarczyk took gold at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin in August.
