Poland's Dorota Banaszczyk has won a historic gold medal at the karate world championships in Madrid.

The 21-year-old on Saturday beat Germany's Jana Bitsch in the final fight of the women's under 55 kg kumite category.
Wen Tzu-yun of Taiwan and Ivet Goranova of Bulgaria each won bronze.
Karate is to make its Olympic debut as a discipline in Tokyo in 2020. (vb)
