The World Health Organisation recommends at least an hour of activity a day, according to Poland’s PAP news agency.

Only two in 10 children in Poland meet those criteria, PAP reported.

The figures come from an international study entitled Global Matrix 3.0, which studied children aged five to 17, PAP reported.

Among 17 European countries included in the survey, Poland came second to last, jointly with Germany, Denmark and Estonia.

Experts warned earlier this year that Polish children were growing fatter faster than anywhere else in Europe.

Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported at the time that in the 1970s fewer than one in 10 school pupils in Poland were overweight, while today the figure is one in five.
