The team, led by Spain's Alex Txikon, is due to leave for Islamabad in Pakistan on January 2, with plans to set up base camp at Baltoro Glacier 10 days later.

The participation of another Pole, Marek Klonowski, has yet to be confirmed.

The summit of K2 has never been scaled in winter.

In March this year, a Polish expedition abandoned its attempt to reach the summit due to exceptionally bad weather.

Another Polish expedition to K2 is planned for the beginning of 2020.
