France’s Sebastien Loeb, a nine-time world rally champion, won the 575-km stage from San Juan de Marcona to Pisco, Peru. Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah came second.

Przygoński, who took a podium spot for the third time in the rally so far, is sixth in the overall standings, 2 hours and 19 minutes behind Al-Attiyah, who is in the lead.

Przygoński lost over an hour due to a broken gearbox in the sixth leg of the race on Sunday.

He finished fifth in last year’s Dakar Rally.

Meanwhile, Polish motorcyclist Maciej Giemza bowed out of the off-road challenge after his vehicle broke down during the eighth leg of the race. Poland’s Adam Tomiczek advanced to 17th spot in the general classification.

The ninth stage, held on a looping circuit, takes place in and around Pisco on Wednesday.
