Giorgi, world No. 28, won 6-2, 6-0 in Melbourne on Thursday.
The Australian Open marks Świątek’s debut in a Grand Slam tournament.
In her first-round match, Świątek, 17, defeated Romania’s Ana Bogdan 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Świątek last year won the junior singles title at the Wimbledon tennis championships in London.
Świątek is still set to play in the mixed doubles competition at the Australian Open alongside Poland’s Łukasz Kubot.
Kubot and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos advanced to the second round of the Australian Open men’s doubles on Wednesday.
