Belgium, who came third in the World Cup in Russia, remain at the top of the FIFA ranking, narrowly ahead of world champions France.
Brazil are at No. 3, ahead of World Cup runners-up Croatia.
Poland have been drawn to play Austria, Israel, Slovenia, Macedonia and Latvia in qualifiers for the Euro 2020 football championships.
Out of those rivals, the highest placed in the new FIFA ranking are Austria, who have fallen one notch to No. 23.
The Polish team suffered an early exit from the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Poland in 2017 climbed to No. 5 in the FIFA table, the best result for the Polish team since the world football governing body’s ranking was launched in 1992.
Poland's lowest place was 78th, in 2013.
