Striker Krzysztof Piątek scored the match’s only goal in the 68th minute at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna.

The victory marked Poland's first win under manager Jerzy Brzęczek, who took over last summer after the national squad’s early exit from the World Cup in Russia.

The Poles take on Latvia in their next Euro 2020 qualifier in Warsaw on Sunday.

Poland’s qualifying Group G also includes Israel, Slovenia and Macedonia.

Fifty-five European teams were in December drawn into a total of 10 qualifying groups, five groups of five teams and five six-team groups.

The Euro 2020 qualifiers will be played between March and November, with the top two teams from each group qualifying directly for the championships.

The Euro 2020 tournament will be held from June 12 to July 12, 2020 in 12 cities around Europe, with the final played at London's Wembley Stadium.
