A Polish air force officer charged with irregularities in handling secret documents was allegedly spying for Russia.

“He is suspected of copying over 10,000 flight plans of [US-made fighter jets] F16,” TVN24 news channel said, citing sources close to the defence ministry. “There are serious grounds to think that he was handing them over to the Russians.”

The air-force lieutenant was detained by the gendarmerie on 20 November.

He has been charged with illegally withdrawing ammunition from a depot, illegal possession of the said ammunition and failure to obey protocol in handling confidential documents.

But the counterintelligence is in conflict with the prosecutors, demanding espionage charges, TVN24 said. (an)
