More than half of Poles - 64 percent - support the government's plan to build nuclear power stations, according to a report on nuclear energy presented by the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) in Warsaw on Monday.

The publication follows the presentation of a draft of the country’s energy policy until 2050 which envisages that Poland's energy sector will be based on the so-called balanced scenario: a domination of coal, the role of natural gas and renewable energy sources growing, and the share of nuclear energy at 15 percent .

"We should be optimistic because this is high percentage of support and we will never have 100 % in favor of nuclear energy. But we should also be cautious because all those who want to invest in nuclear energy in Poland need to keep the society informed, updated and in favor all the time" Aleksandra Gawlikowska-Fyk, head of energy projects at PISM and one of the authors of the report told our reporter Danuta Isler.
