The European Union should maintain its sanctions against Russia, foreign ministers from the 28-nation bloc agreed at a council meeting in Luxembourg on Monday.

As John Beauchamp reports, Poland’s Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna said after the meeting that “the conclusion here was that the EU needs to be consistent, and this was not just the line towed by foreign ministers from Central European member states.”

Ambassadors from EU member states are now set to meet at the end of October to further analyse the situation to the east of the EU’s borders, and decide whether to lift or further deepen sanctions against Russia.
