As John Beauchamp reports, the document points to NATO and its alleged expansion as an immediate external threat posed to Russian security and interests.

While the core basis of the document has remained almost unchanged, it does contain new sections which outline the perceived threat against Russia, being NATO, which it says is taking on “global functions realised with violation of international law”.

Jaroslaw Kalinowski from the junior coalition Polish Peasants Party believes that while western sanctions are having an effect on the Russian economy, Russian society is far more resilient and has made concessions.

“Russian society believes Putin and does so in an absolute way. I don’t see any light in the tunnel and of course now one has to wait, and I hope it will be sooner rather than later, for some sort of political solution,” he says.
