On that day in 1945 advancing Red Army units liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi German concentration camp. This year's anniversary will mark 7 decades since the liberating Russian soldiers saw a handful of barely 7,000 surviving inmates, all resembling but skin covered skeletons.

As Slawek Szefs reports, preparations to the main events are in their final stage.

"Till now we have received confirmation of participation […] from Poland's head of state Bronislaw Komorowski, the presidents of France and Germany, sizeable delegations from The Netherlands including the King and Queen as well as Prime Minister, or the Prince of Norway and the country's Prime Minister,” Bartosz Bartyzel, spokesman for the Auschwitz Museum, told Polish Radio.

And Russia...? “According to information that we received from the Russian Federation, its delegation will be headed by ambassador Sergei Andreyev,” Bartosz Bartyzel explained.
