As John Beauchamp reports, the documents - mostly reports and analytical papers - look at the Poland’s transformation before and following the round table talks in 1989 which paved the way for country’s path to democracy.

Historian at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Piotr Długołęcki explains that most of the documents are dated 1988 and 1989, as that was when most activity was going on in Poland. The documents also include military intelligence reports.

“We also have an interesting document from 1991 which highights the crisis in Lithuania when there was fighting going on in Vilnius. Here, NATO intelligence officers are interested in how the Polish army is reacting to the situation and is interested in the fact that Polish tropps are mobilised to the border between Poland and Lithuania in order to protect Poland from any negative consequences of that conflict,” Długołęcki says.

The documents can be viewed here.
