As the left is working at full throttle to integrate, a new player on the arena, the White-and-Reds, is gearing up to go it alone in the fall parliamentary elections.

Headed by SLD breakaway MP Grzegorz Napieralski and former Your Movement speaker Andrzej Rozenek, the party built from scratch is meant to distance itself from the political old boys, in power since the fall of communism in 1989.

“I don’t know if there’s enough electorate to vote for two or three, or four, left-wing parties in Poland,” says political analyst Bartłomiej Biskup, from the University of Warsaw. “I can say that this initiative has chance for two- or three-percent support.”
