Also in Poland, the Polish Humanities Crisis Committee, has called on the Science and Higher Education Ministry to increase funding for science.

In May, students at the University of Warsaw formed the ‘Engaged University’ initiative to protest against new study regulations.

Agnieszka Łaszczuk spoke with Monika Koblak and Marcin Zaród from the Citizens of Academia movement, about Polish universities.

“For the past 20 years, Poland’s system of higher education and research has been seriously underfunded,” said Marcin Zaród.

“Young students and researchers do not have enough incentives and motivation to spend time on researching. They do not feel that their situation is stable and secure,” Koblak explained.
