  • A worse deal for refugees?
Among questions dealing with Poland's capabilities of accepting refugees from North Africa and the Middle East the issue of funding occupies considerable attention of society.

Sławek Szefs looks at the matter from the point of view of Polish authorities - the government in Warsaw has pledged to take in 7,000 migrants - as well as those immediately concerned, the refugees themselves.

Poland would be receiving from EUR 6,000 to 10,000 for assistance to each refugee that it has actually sheltered. How much of this would be at the personal disposal of asylum seekers?

“The individual migrant will not be receiving money directly as the sums are to be a form of compensation for countries receiving the foreigners,” says Ewa Piechota, spokesperson for Poland's Office for Foreigners, dispelling all speculations.
