After the Paris attacks, Europe is facing a difficult choice – how far can we depart from our attachment to the European values and civil liberties, in order to ensure an effective fight against terrorism?

Evidence from many countries shows that citizens are willing to agree to restrictions of freedom in exchange for security.
This is the result of the debate that is sweeping across Europe – that the Paris attacks should force a change in the attitude towards security in the European Union.
It is often said that past actions were insufficient, that the fight against terrorism requires the cooperation of all the countries of the Union and also demands a change in approach.
