The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established in 1967 by Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Brunei joined in 1984, Vietnam in 1995, Laos and Myanmar in 1997, and Cambodia in 1999. Experts argue that both Poland and the EU can benefit from a well-functioning market in the region which even during the global economic crisis performed exceptionally well - in 2012, e.g., the GDP of Laos grew by 8.2%, Cambodia by 7.3%, and the Philippines by 6.8%.
