“Metropolis” had its premiere in Berlin on 10 January 1927. The movie, directed by Fritz Lang, has inspired generations of filmmakers for almost a century.

Despite getting mixed reviews and being a commercial flop at the time of its premiere, Metropolis has influenced, the creators of “Star Wars”, “Matrix”, and “Blade Runner” to name just a few.

As Michał Owczarek reports, on Tuesday, exactly 90 years after the film’s world premiere, Polish Radio is going to pay tribute to the classic by staging a special show organised as part of the Soundedit festival.

“Metropolis is probably one of the strongest movies ever produced, but also, because it is a silent movie, you miss the third dimension which is music,” said Maciej Werk, the director of Soundedit.
