Amnesty International has released a detailed analysis of the human rights cost of the fast-expanding security state in Europe.

Sławek Szefs looks at Polish opinions on this two year research, entitled "Dangerously disproportionate: The ever-expanding security state in Europe", which was conducted by 14 EU member countries, including Poland.

“Presently we vest trust in the authorities but given the enhanced powers [for special services] that are now being created we have no guarantee they will not be made ill use of at some point in the future by those whom we shall not trust," said Wojciech Klicki from Panoptykon.

Panoptykon is a Warsaw-based foundation set up in 2009 with a mission to protect fundamental rights and freedoms in the context of fast changing technologies and growing surveillance.
