  • Poland marks Fighting Solidarity's foundation anniversary
Poland marks 35 years since the foundation of the Fighting Solidarity, an anti-communist underground organisation.

It was founded in June 1982 in response to the de-legalization of the Solidarity movement and government repressions of the opposition after martial law was declared in Poland in 1981.

Jarosław Szarek, the president of the state-run Institute of National Remembrance said that the members of "Fighting Solidarity had no doubts about what communism really was. They did not want to cooperate with the authorities, they wanted to take the power out of the authorities' hands."
