Polish President vetos controversial judiciary reform
Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Monday he would veto two controversial government-backed bills to overhaul the country’s courts, amid a political storm over the judiciary.

Calling for calm, in a special televised address Duda, who hails from Poland's ruling conservative Law and Justice party, said that “wise” changes to the judiciary were needed, but added that he was against strengthening the influence of the Attorney General over the Supreme Court.
Jacek Sasin from the ruling Law and Justice party said he was surprised by the president's decision.
"The Judiciary reform is an urgent matter for Poland... I am afraid that the decision ... means that we will have to wait for a long time to reform the Polish judiciary."
