EU court orders Poland to halt excessive logging
The European Court of Justice has issued a preliminary decision ordering logging to be halted in Poland’s primaeval Białowieża forest.

The Polish government has argued that dead wood needs to be removed to combat an infestation of bark beetles.
Michał Owczarek reports.
“Any action we take in the Białowieża forest is compliant with Polish and EU laws. The court had the right to take such a decision. We will respond to it in detail when we have studied the rationale for it,” Polish government spokesman Rafał Bochenek said.
