This interest has also been shared in Warsaw which is aware of the position Berlin enjoys among the EU community of nations.

Sławek Szefs reports the result of the radical right AfD will influence not only the country's domestic policies.

Janusz Reiter, a former Polish ambassador to Berlin, expects the AfD to exert substantial influence on the quality of German parliamentary debate, which could be a political test for Warsaw.

“This will require strong restraint on the part of Poland and the ability to differentiate that which is just loud rhetoric from what is really important," Reiter told Polish Radio.
