A funeral ceremony was held in West London on Thursday to honor Col. Franciszek Kornicki, a wartime Polish RAF fighter pilot.
Sławek Szefs reports that family, friends and invited guests paid their last respects to the great hero of the Battle of Britain, who died at the age of one hundred.
Arkady Rzegocki, Poland’s ambassador to the UK, said during the ceremony that Colonel Kornicki had been part of a great generation of true Polish patriots - one which served as an inspiration to Poles fighting back home during the war, later on in the struggle against communism and subsequently in maintaining this tradition among emigre Poles in Britain.
“They are an inspiration for us also in present times,” ambassador Rzegocki added.
