The Polish history of the sport includes several fighters who were successful not only at home, but also abroad, among them Piotr Siegoczyński, Agnieszka Rylik, Przemysław Saleta and martial arts legend Marek Piotrowski, a nine-time world champion.

They will all be honoured during an event billed as the DSF Kickboxing Challenge Gala in Warsaw on Saturday.

The history of kickboxing in Poland dates back to the 1980s. The pioneer of the sport was Andrzej Palacz, the current chairman of the Polish Kickboxing Association. He was the coach of many kickboxers who would later become champions.

The first Polish championships took place in 1985 and the 1990s marked dynamic development of kickboxing in the country, an era during which Polish contestants triumphed in competitions in Europe and worldwide.

Danuta Isler spoke to former world champion Przemysław Saleta about the upcoming Warsaw event.

Live streaming of the gala will be available at: http://dsfchallenge.com/en
