The European Commission has decided to earmark some EUR 40 million (PLN 167 million) for a purchase of 130 new electric buses for Warsaw.

The move will improve the standard of living in the Polish capital by helping reduce traffic and ensuring better air quality, the Commission said.

Electromobility is one of the strategic directions the Polish government has adopted in its short-term economic development plans.

“We want nearly 1,000 electric buses to ply the streets of Polish cities by 2020. Poland is the largest manufacturer of buses in Europe but we would like the focus to be on electric ones,” said Jerzy Kwieciński, minister of investment and development.
