Commentators said it was Kownacki’s most important win to date, confirming his transition from prospect to contender.

Nicknamed "Babyface," Kownacki was born in Poland and moved to the United States with his family when he was seven. He is currently ranked No. 13 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

Kownacki made the headlines last summer when he defeated former world title challenger and fellow Pole Artur Szpilka, stopping him in the fourth round in New York.

Danuta Isler spoke to Kownacki after that fight in July last year.
