Formally presented with the document by Culture Minister Piotr Gliński at a special ceremony in Warsaw last Saturday, he spoke of his productions of Polish operatic classics, attachment to the European ideal, and “sharing my destiny and my country’s destiny with other European nations”.

Pountney will also be on the honorary committee of events marking the 200th birth anniversary of the composer who has been called the father of Polish opera, Stanisław Moniuszko.
