Two years ago the Great Theatre in Łódź and the Manufaktura centre based in a revitalized nineteenth-century textile factory launched a competition for an opera built around the story of the factory's owner, Łódź cotton king Izrael Poznański to tell the history of the city up to the present day. Now the winning composition by Rafał Janiak The Man from Manufaktura has opened on the Łódź stage. The composer and leading lady Małgorzata Walewska are talking to Elżbieta Krajewska.
