Twenty years ago, on March 12, 1999, Poland formally became a member of NATO.

At a ceremony in Independence, Missouri, in the United States, the then Polish Foreign Minister Bronisław Geremek presented to US State Secretary Madeleine Albright his country’s Act of Accession to the North Atlantic Treaty.

Poland, together with the Czech Republic and Hungary, became a party to the Washington Treaty and a member of NATO.
