The meeting comes after British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday requested a three-month delay to her country’s exit from the European Union.

Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, has appealed to all member states to be open to a long extension if "the UK finds it necessary to rethink its Brexit strategy and build consensus around it."

A week before the UK is due to leave the bloc, many analysts, politicians and EU citizens alike are wondering what happens next. Will there be an extension? And if so, what kind?

Danuta Isler spoke to the Irish ambassador to Poland, Emer O'Connell, about the challenges ahead.
