Poll: 2013 not a good year for Poland

Half of Poles had a good year personally in 2013 though only one-in-five thought the year good for the country, according to a new poll.

One in every two Poles say that 2013 was a good year in their personal life, according to the survey by the CBOS Institute, with 32 percent of respondents describing 2013 as neither good nor bad and 18 percent said it was a bad period in their lives.

Only 22 percent described 2013 as a good year for the country, however, with 33 percent of respondents saying it was a bad year for Poland: 37 percent thought the year mediocre.

For the world at large, 2013 was good in the opinion of 18 percent of Poles.

Forty one percent hope for an improvement in their personal situation and 36 percent say 2014 will be a better year for Poland.

In another poll, this time by the Market Research Interactive Institute, 48 said they will be seeing in the new year at a private party organized by friends, with 30 percent saying they will be spending the night at home.

59 percent of respondents told the pollsters they will be toasting in the New Year with sparkling wine or champagne, with 48 percent saying they will be drinking the more traditional vodka.

Each person plans to spend just under 100 zloty on drinks, up 25 zloty on last year. (mk/pg)
