“As far as the government is concerned I'm ready,” Kopacz, a former health minister and current speaker of the lower house of parliament told journalists on Tuesday after having talks with various cabinet ministers, including sports minster Andrzej Biernat and Secretary of State at the Chancellery Pawel Gras.

“The first person who I will tell of the composition of the [new] cabinet with be the president,” Kopacz said, who replaces Donald Tusk as prime minister after his election as head of the EU's European Council.

Details on the new cabinet will be given on Friday morning after the PM-designate meets with President Bronislaw Komorowski on Thursday evening.

On 1 October, Kopacz will lay out the policies of the new government to parliament, when a vote of confidence will follow.

Meanwhile, a new poll by TNS Polska finds that the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) are on 31 percent support, with Civic Platform in second place on 27 percent.

Just weeks ahead of crucial local government elections and a year ahead of a general election, the Democratic Left alliance (SLD) is on 10 percent and the current junior coalition partner Polish Peasants Party (PSL) on 7 percent.

The survey was conducted 5-9 September 2014 on a nationwide, representative sample of 970. (pg)
