Visitors to the Cold War era skyscraper can observe master chocolatiers at work, as well as sample a range of cocoa-fuelled creations.

Among the most striking examples of confectionery art is a mock railway set (pictured) by Janusz Profus, who is representing Warsaw-based firm E.Wedel.

There will also be catwalk shows involving clothing made from chocolate, courtesy of fashion designer Agnieszka Maciejak.

Sophisticated confectionery art was practised by many Polish firms prior to World War II, a notable example being Ludwik Zalewski, as immortalised by the late author Stanislaw Lem.

However, during the communist era, when large private firms were nationalised and basic ingredients were often lacking, the confectionery industry suffered.

The 1st International Festival of Chocolate and Confectionery lasts until the evening of Sunday 16 November. More information can be found on the event's Facebook page. (nh)
