According to Krakow's Appellate Prosecutor's Office, which is leading the investigation, the arrests took place in Warsaw and Poznan.

However, the office has not yet clarified the nature of the charges that the men will face.

Earlier this month, former senator Aleksander G. (full name withheld under Polish privacy laws) was arrested on suspicion of incitement to murder.

The former senator, who was in office from 1993-1997, recently served an 8-year prison sentence for tax evasion, but he denies any hand in the journalist's murder.

Jaroslaw Zietara was an investigative journalist from Poznan who wrote about economic scandals.

He had worked for the Gazeta Wyborcza daily, the Wprost weekly and then Gazeta Poznanska, for whom he was writing at the time of his disappearance

He vanished on his way to work on 1 September 1992. His body was never found, but in 1998, Poznan prosecutors concluded that the journalist had been abducted and murdered. (nh)
