These range from PLN 100 (around USD 28) for half a litre of vodka, to PLN 65,000 (just under USD 18,000) for early release.

One prison guard, who is under investigation for allegedly accepting hundreds of thousands in bribes is said to have distributed as many as 6,000 portions of drugs within one prison alone.

An insider interviewed by the paper said that despite the bad press these situations are marginal, especially considering that there are over 27,000 guards overseeing Polish correctional facilities. (rg)
