While drinking alcohol in most public places in Poland is illegal, the riverbank boulevards are an exception, the municipality now believes, according to urban activist and councilman Jan Śpiewak.

The police, however, may still issue tickets for alcohol consumption, as they do not feel bound by the municipality’s opinion.

Hundreds of Varsovians have been fined for drinking alcohol on the popular riverside boulevards, where drinking is only legal at a small number of spots where licensed businesses operate. (an)
