According to the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, Poland has never experienced such an influx of migrants, the majority of whom are from neighbouring Ukraine, statistics reveal.

“More and more Ukrainians are looking for possibilities to live in Poland,” Piotr Tyma, head of the Ukrainian Association in Poland told the Metro daily recently.

“Residents of eastern Ukraine are escaping the conflict there, while people who have not accepted the [Russian] annexation of Crimea are also leaving there for fear of repression,” he added.

The number of immigrants living legally in Poland has also gone up following a new law which makes it easier for business owners to employ foreigners in temporary positions, including seasonal work. (jb)
