Shin M. (full name withheld under Polish law) was a former military intelligence officer for the Japanese military.

He has been living in Poland with his wife and children for the last few years, residing near the town of Ryki in eastern Poland.

The prosecutor’s office has stated that the man should be sent to a psychiatric institution.

Members of the antiterrorist police were alerted to the area around the Dęblin airport last November, when pilots landing at the airport at night reported being blinded by a green laser light.

When the police investigated the apartment of the 40-year-old Shin M., they found firearms and a taser.

At a hearing, he stated that he was protecting his family from incoming helicopters.

He has been charged with two counts of aviation crimes. (rg)
