Poland places 60th in global Happiness Index

Switzerland is the world's happiest county, according to a report by the United Nations, with Poland in 60th place worldwide.

The results of the UN study were based on data from the Gallup World Poll, and considered several issues such as real GDP per capita, life expectancy, levels of corruption and social freedoms.

"Increasingly happiness is considered a proper measure of social progress and goal of public policy," the report said.

EU countries which ranked lower than Poland included: Croatia (62), Cyprus (67), Estonia (73), Romania (86), Portugal (88), Latvia (89), Greece (102) and Hungary (104).

However, several EU countries were also among the happiest in the world, according to the ranking.

Iceland, Denmark and Norway took second, third and fourth place respectively.

“The world has come a long way since the first World Happiness Report in 2012,” the forward to the report said.

“Happiness is increasingly considered a proper measure of social progress and a goal of public policy.” (rg)
