The result means that a second round of voting would take place on 24 May between the top two candidates.

The Millward Brown poll, commissioned by broadcaster TVN, notes a three-percentage point slide in support for Komorowski, while backing for Duda remains unchanged.

Independent candidate, musician Paweł Kukiz saw the biggest hike in support in the poll, gaining four percentage points to land in with 13 percent of the ballot.

The survey shows that the remaining eight candidates are far behind in the presidential race.

Only four percent of voters support the Democratic Left Alliance’s candidate Magdalena Ogórek, while liberal candidate Janusz Palikot can count on three percent and Paweł Jarubas from the junior coalition partner Polish People’s Party can count on two percent.

The poll was conducted on 6-7 May on a representative selection on 3,016 adult Poles. (jb)
