Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Komorowski said that “this is an unclear proposal, because either you’re a politician or you’re a citizen”.

“A proposal whereby two [presidential] candidates […] debated with the participation of a third candidate who is longer in the running is slightly odd,” Komorowski said.

The move comes after Paweł Kukiz, who came third in Sunday’s ballot with over 20 percent support, suggested that he host a debate between the two remaining front-runners.

“Of course I understand [his] intentions that he would like to educate us about the importance of single-mandate constituences, but I don’t’ have to be persuaded, I already am,” Komorowski said, following his decision this week to call for a referendum on the issue.

However, Komorowski underlined that he would “very gladly” host Paweł Kukiz in the Presidential Palace to “clarify and propose further cooperation on rallying public opinion on single-mandate constituencies in Poland”. (jb)
