Polling stations opened at 7am and will close at 9pm.

President Bronisław Komorowski, whi is due to turn 63 next month, had appeared to be the clear favourite in the months leading up to the election.

However, Andrzej Duda, the 43-year-old candidate of conservative opposition party Law and Justice, surprised pollsters in the first round on 10 May.

Out of 11 candidates, the Law and Justice (PiS) politician won the most votes, with 34.76 percent, ahead of Komorowski, who took 33.77 percent.

Since then, opinion polls have swung both ways in the wake of one-on-one televised debates. (nh)
