The area’s residents were left without electricity after heavy rainfall and strong winds damaged power lines and flooded several areas.

“The greatest damage was reported in the districts of Tomaszów, Zamość, and Puławy near Biała Podlaska. In these areas, firefighters’ activities focused on pumping out water from flooded areas and basements and – in the district of Tomaszów – also removing broken tree branches,” Tomasz Stachyra, a spokesperson for the firefighters in Lublin, told the TVP broadcaster.

“Cooler air rushing in from the west will result in seasonably cool air from Germany into Poland and the Baltic States; however, where this cool air clashes with warm air, heavy thunderstorms will erupt,” wrote accuweather, a metrological news service.

One of the worst affected towns is Zamość, near the border with Ukraine. In Zamość, several plots were flooded, and local authorities received several dozen requests for assistance. (rg)
