Police had been trying to identify the man for several days following the incident.

Flabbergasted visitors watched in amazement on Sunday morning as the man climbed into the enclosure and walked up to a brown bear.

The bear bit the man on the arm, although there have been claims that the intruder hit the animal first.

The 32-year-old apparently refused to tell police why he entered the enclosure.

He could be fined up to PLN 1,000 for provoking the animal. (nh)
