PM Kopacz stressed that in the case of weakening złoty currency against the euro and dollar, the finance minister and the central bank may intervene on the market.

The head of government added on Monday that Greece needs Europe, but also that Europe needs Greece.

“We should definitely support Greece in its reforms today. Without these reforms, it will be difficult for Greece to come and say: we will not do anything, but we want support,” Kopacz said on Monday.

The Prime Minister added that the “eurozone must be reliable, strong, with stable finances and stable economies”.

“We are safe, our banks are stable,” Kopacz added.

PM Kopacz added that Poland not only has large reserves of foreign exchange and in the National Bank of Poland, but the Finance Ministry also has reserves at its disposal.

“These are billions [of złoty] in reserves. At any time, the Finance Minister and the governor of the National Bank of Poland have the ability to manoeuvre a rapid response. If the złoty were to weaken, then it is clear that we will use the financial instruments that are at the disposal of the finance minister,” Kopacz pointed out.

On Monday the European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker said that while the doors for talks were still open with Greece, he felt “betrayed” by the “egotism” of the Greek government. (rg)
