Polish police says that over the weekend, when temperatures around the country could hit 36 degrees Celsius, people should be careful when relaxing next to lakes and rivers.

Since May, as many as 80 people have drowned in Poland.

“The next few days will be very hot. Our experience shows that at such a time, the number of swimmers rises, and this involves considerable risks. Everyone wants to find a place for themselves, where there are few other people,” said police spokesperson Mariusz Sokołowski.

“People choose places which are difficult for rescuers to get to. They choose unsupervised lakes, rivers, old quays. We call for caution and [for people to] consider whether it is worth to bathe in such a place,” Sokołowski said. (rg)
