The CBOS survey found that 31 percent of respondents had 'definitely' no idea what the referendum is about, while 19 percent said they 'rather' did not know what it pertains to.
Only 20 percent said they 'definitely' knew what the referendum concerns.
The referendum was called by outgoing head of state Bronisław Komorowski, who promised to hold the plebiscite following the first round of the presidential election in May.
Three questions will be asked.
The first asks whether Poles are “for the introduction of single-seat constituencies in the elections to the Sejm [lower house of parliament],” the second whether they support “the maintainenance of the current method of financing political parties from the state budget” and the third whether they are in favour of “the introduction of a general principle that will settle doubts about the interpretation of tax law for the benefit of the taxpayer.”
The referendum will be held just a few weeks before this October's general election, the final date of which has yet to be confirmed. (nh)
